The passing of a legend "STIG" Steve Tasso

Updated: Sep 18

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend, Steve "Stig" Tasso. Steve was an integral part of our gaming club for over two decades, joining us not long after we settled into the Cold Harbour community hall venue. Steve was a kind and loyal soul, known for his jovial spirit and a deep sense of independence. He wouldn’t take nonsense from anyone, yet he always had a genuine smile and a warm laugh ready to brighten our gatherings.

Many of us had the pleasure of knowing Steve for more than 20 years, sharing countless Friday nights immersed in worlds far from our own—whether we were battling aliens in distant sci-fi realms, surviving historical horrors, or living out fantastical adventures. Steve brought life and energy to every character he played, from the brave barbarian who would charge fearlessly into battle, to the rogue lurking in the shadows with his trusty crossbow. In every game, he embodied the passion and camaraderie we hold dear in our community.

While we hadn't seen Steve in person for the last three years, he was fortunate to continue playing online through our old club, Hobbit’s Hole. Even as his health declined, Steve never lost his love for gaming or his connection to the club, remaining a part of our world until the day he passed. He was someone who never spoke ill of others and was always supportive of those around him, a true friend in every sense.

Steve stayed local to his roots in Charlton, where he lovingly cared for his mother while managing his own health struggles. Despite these challenges, he remained a steadfast presence in our gaming group for so many years. His absence will be deeply felt by those of us who had the privilege to share in his adventures, both in-game and in life.

We’ll always remember Steve's big, bushy beard, his unique sense of humour, and the way he truly embraced the nickname "Stig," a playful nod to the beloved character from Stig of the Dump. His memorial service at St. Luke's Church was a beautiful tribute, followed by a gathering at the Bugle Horn Pub, a place that held many fond memories for Steve and for us. Though his passing has brought sorrow, it also brought many of us back together to celebrate the life of a truly special man.

Going forward our annual Manic Trophy Tournament will celebrate the life of all our fallen heroes of the club.

To Steve, our friend and fellow gamer: you will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. We raise a glass in your memory and in honour of all the joy and laughter you brought to our gaming table. Rest in peace, Stig.

With love and remembrance, Your friends at the Dragons Keep.
